Topic: Understanding your business and customer information – A Cyber-Adversary Perspective

Far too many organizations do not believe they would be victimized by a cyber attack.  Cybercrimes just like many crimes are opportunistic.  In this discussion, you will learn about the various types of information beyond social security numbers and your financial data. You will also learn the impact of that information and why and adversary would want access to it.  Interwoven in the discussion is how to protect the information using basic and inexpensive security controls.  Security controls native to the operating system where the data resides will be emphasized.

A little message from the speaker, Duane Dunston, who is also one of VCET’s newest members:

My name is Duane Dunston.  I am an Assistant Professor of Information Security at Champlain College and I contribute bi-weekly to VTDigger on topics of Cybersecurity.  I am currently off for the summer and would like to extend an invitation to answer any questions you may have about the security needs of your organization.  If you would like to talk privately or have sensitive information to discuss, I am more than willing to sign non-disclosure agreements and have a private meeting with you.  I can also visit each site a couple of times a month to be available if anyone has questions.  I plan to provide workshops this summer on cybersecurity for your organization and can travel to each site to provide those workshops.  I provide workshops even if one person shows up.  Feel free to email me for a private meeting  – – or if you want a group workshop or would like a visit at each site for open Q&A, please let me know.

Please RSVP to this free event to hold your spot! Some treats will be provided, but please plan to bring your own lunch. This event is open to VCET members, as well as, the public. Please email if you are not a VCET member in order to coordinate entry to the building. Thank you!
