Burlington Code Academy Gets High Marks With First Cohort
BCA’s Combination of Coding Bootcamps, Demo Days, Student Loan Support and Job Placement Help Strengthen Vermont’s Tech Workforce
Burlington, VT (December 10, 2018) – Since its first coding bootcamp in June of this
year, Burlington Code Academy (BCA) has helped several local professionals find new
careers in tech, and in turn has helped companies fulfill their need for tech talent. In
addition to its first few sold-out bootcamps, BCA has added other benefits to its program
including partnerships for financial discounts and grants, demo days for prospective
employers, and a part-time evening course for those looking to test out a tech career.
“We are thrilled with the early success of Burlington Code Academy – it reflects the local
energy and commitment to growing the tech industry from the ground up, right here in
Vermont,” said [Alex Horner, founder and chief marketing officer of Burlington Code
Academy]. “We’ve enriched our program to make it easier for individuals to make the
career change they’ve always dreamt about, and we’ve helped local companies hire
locally.”
Student Demo Day
Each bootcamp concludes with a Student Demo Day, where students showcase their
capstone projects to prospective employers as well as anyone interested from the
public. If you’re interested in catching a glimpse of the next crop of tech talent for
recruitment or inspiration, mark your calendars for the next Student Demo Day on
December 13 from 6-9pm at VCET.
New Evening Course
For those requiring an after-hours, part-time course, the JavaScript After Hours course
begins January 15th. In this new course, students will learn new concepts that advance
them from the basics of JavaScript programming into an intermediate level. A series of
projects lead to final project of a fully functioning web application.
Applications can be submitted here.
New Opportunities for Financial Support
BCA created the Pathways Scholarship, a $4,000 scholarship for students who attend
the JavaScript After Hours course. The scholarship can be applied toward enrollment in
BCA’s full-time Web Development Bootcamp, giving students the opportunity to build a
strong skill set by attending both courses for the price of one.
BCA has also partnered with Skills Fund to offer student loans, and the Vermont
Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act for tuition grants.
BCA first formed in June 2017 with the support of Vermont Center for Emerging
Technologies (VCET). The BCA team leveraged the services VCET offers, before
opening its own doors at 182 Main St. in Burlington.
